Meet Josipa Siebert, Creator of Vibrant Expressive Art
Artist Biography:
Josipa Siebert
Josipa Siebert (*born 1984 in Virovitica, Croatia) is a Croatian‑German artist whose work places the human being—as an inner, reflective presence—at its center. Her painting is rooted in the conviction that art can function as a quiet yet powerful companion, offering a presence that supports inner clarity, dignity, and emotional stability over time.
Her works are not autobiographical in a narrow sense. Instead, they emerge from continuous research and a contemplative engagement with universal human states. Siebert translates these intellectual and emotional inquiries into clearly structured painterly compositions that do not depict external events, but focus on inner movement, collectedness, and strength. Her images are deliberately reduced, opening spaces of resonance rather than interpretation and inviting slowed, attentive viewing.
A defining characteristic of her artistic practice is complete control over the creation of her visual sources. Each work begins with the conscious development of an inner persona—a condensed human state that forms the core of the image. Based on this, Siebert carefully selects a model whose inner presence aligns with the intended expression. Clothing and scenery are also developed by the artist herself, allowing for the creation of timeless pictorial spaces that resist clear temporal or fashionable markers. References to haute couture do not function as stylistic quotations, but rather as an aesthetic framework for clarity, structure, and presence, translated into reduced and autonomous forms.
The photographic sessions serve as a transitional phase between concept and painting. The resulting photographs are not an end in themselves, but working material that is transformed through reduction, layering, and painterly refinement until the image reaches a state of quiet concentration.
Siebert’s visual language is characterized by compositional clarity and sensitive materiality. A small number of precisely placed elements inhabit open pictorial spaces; light, surface, and layering create a subtle tension and lasting presence. Literature, scientific texts, and spiritual approaches form an intellectual background that lends the works a depth beyond immediate visibility.
Her oeuvre is organized into ongoing series, including “Strong Women,” “The Inner Child,” “Strong Men,” and “Relationships.” These open cycles allow individual works to be understood as part of a larger, evolving conceptual whole and to be accompanied over extended periods of time.
Josipa Siebert’s works have been presented in selected, contemplative contexts, including sacred spaces and a psychosomatic clinic—environments that emphasize the sustaining character of her practice. Individual works are held in private collections. Current presentations mark a careful expansion of her presence within the professional gallery context, while maintaining a clear focus and selectivity in her work.
